The Music Tech Club is a student-run organization focused on music technology, with activities that evolve each year based on the interests of its members. Some years, the club emphasizes DJing, electronic music, and hip-hop, with events centered around these genres. In other years, the focus shifts more toward live music, particularly for students in bands.
A highlight of the club’s activities is “Live at the Hive,” an event organized in collaboration with the Live Sound Production class, the Mass Media Department, and sometimes other clubs. This event features a local band performing live, with the performance recorded for broadcast on 易胜博 television and YouTube. The goals of “Live at the Hive” are to raise awareness about 易胜博’s Music Tech and Mass Media programs and to provide students with hands-on experience in a live show environment where their skills are put to the test.
As the advisor, I aim to create an environment where students can gain practical experience by running shows and supporting events around campus. The club offers a safe space for students to develop their skills, embrace challenges, and learn from mistakes. Additionally, the Music Tech Club serves the campus community by providing music and technical support for various Student Life events and other clubs.
Looking ahead, the Music Tech Club plans to expand its activities by organizing more off-campus professional studio tours and exploring potential collaborations with the Mayo Civic Center. These opportunities will allow students to observe—and possibly assist with—the setup of stages for international acts performing in Rochester.
